Alfred
Debattista
President - Founder |
Born in Valletta on
19th. July, 1937, Alfred was educated at the
Valletta (Baviera) Primary School and St. Albert
The Great College. He joined the Malta Police
Force in January of 1956 and completed an uninterrupted
25 years service till the year 1981 when he
resigned in the rank of Inspector.
He then joined Bank of Valletta as their Security
Manager where he worked for another 16 years
- including a five year period as the Bank's
Worker director - until resigning in 1997 as
Senior Manager, for Health reasons. In fact
he was transplanted with a heart donated by
31 year old Gozitan George Sultana in August
1999. Following this experience Alfred - along
with most of his colleagues now serving in the
Committee - founded the Transplant Support Group
on the 9th May, 2000.
Married to Gaetana nee Scicluna, Alfred has
two married children - Raymond and Nathalie
- and four nephews (all boys).
Having been very much involved in local football
administration, Alfred is also a writer having
published - to date 'The Sporting History of
the Malta Police (1881 - 1981), 'L-Arcipierku,
Niesu u l'Madwar’ and 'Helwin u Mexxejja'
comprising 15 short stories, with another two
publications in the pipeline.
In September of 2003, Alfred Debattista was
awarded the 'Premju Anzjan tas-Sena', in recognition
of his continuous involvement in voluntary work. |

Joe
Bonello
Secretary

Born on 22nd August 1946,
Joe has the distinction of being the first person
in Malta to be transplanted with a heart in
September of 1996.
Joe served in the R.A.F (Malta) between 1996
and 1979 and has been a Councilor within the
Sta. Lucia Local Council since March of 2001
having also been re-elected at the last elections.
Apart from other engagements with various local
Committees, Joe is also very active as Secretary
of the organisation 'Problemi tal-Qalb'. Joe's
main hobby is holidaying abroad. |

Anthony
Dalli
Treasurer |
Born
on 18th April 1948, Tony is the Group’s
Treasurer.
Married with three children, he was transplanted
with a kidney donated by the same George Sultana
(as Alfred).
Presently employed at the Provision Stores
at Mount Carmel Hospital, Tony is also involved
in other Committees, holding mainly, the post
of Treasurer.
Tony's main pass times are football and holidaying
abroad. |

Anthony
Bugeja

Apart
from his post within the Group, Tony is the
Nursing Officer at the Renal Unit of St. Luke’s
Hospital looking after the needs of 180 patients
on a daily basis for Dialysis treatment. After
having attended specialised courses abroad,
Tony introduced locally the C.A.P.D Treatment
and children Dialysis treatment. Tony is a
lecturer at the Institute of Health Care.
He is also Malta’s Transplant coordinator
with full involvement in the transplant process.
Being the Vice-Chairperson and an active member
of the Lifecycle organisation, Tony formed
part of group of cyclist who performed the
first cycling Challenge in 1999 which turned
out to become an annual event aimed at raising
the necessary funds for the needs of Renal
patients and their transplant Support Group.
Also active in the Cana Movement, Tony was
chosen as the 'Haddiem tas-Sena' in 1999.
Tony is married to Louise nee Vella with three
daughters Denise, Astrid and Leah. His main
pastimes are swimming, running and, of course,
cycling. |

Muscat
Vice-President |
Born in 1960, married to
Carmen with two sons, Daniel, Malcolm
and foster child Bernard 18, James was co-opted
to work within the Group this year after having
donated a kidney to his brother - in - law David
to become our first Living UNRELATED Kidney
Donor. In fact, as a role-model, he is giving
support to prospective living donors.
Involved in several philanthropic associations
he enjoys helping out in Fundraising activities
- as he has the intention to do for our Group.
Having studied Hospitality Management in Switzerland
and graduated with Bachelor of Science from
Florida International University in Miami in
1983, James works as Company Director, involved
in Food Manufacturing, importation and retailing
as a result of which he has to travel extensively
on business related trips.
He loves traveling, swimming, walking and Internet
and dogs, particularly Labradors. His ultimate
dream is to live healthily and help people in
need.

Daniel
Farrugia
Member |
Born in B'Bugia on
18th March 1984, Daniel is the youngest member
of our team. He was transplanted with an eye-cornea
in December of 2003.
He is presently attending a Technician Diploma
in Industrial Electronics course at MCAST as
an apprentice Student- Worker and is in his
last year of studies, Daniel is sponsored by
ST. Microelectronics

Dione
Caruana

Born in St. Julian's
on 21 st. February 1973, Dione started his education
at the Primary School of the Fransiscan Sisters
of Cospicua and then at the De La Salle College
in Vittoriosa. He furthered his studies in Health
Care at the University of Malta Health Institute
from where he graduated as staff nurse on 9th
November 1995, commencing a four year period
at M3 Medical, followed another three years
at the Renal Unit, at St. Luke's Hospital.
Dione is posted at the Gozo Renal Unit of the
General Hospital in Gozo and formed an important
role in the setting up of the Group's Gozo Section.
He is married to Bernardette (nee Cutajar)
having a young daughter, Martina. He resides
with his
family at Zebbug, Gozo. |

Ta' eta żgħira attenda -iskola tas-Sorijiet Franġiskani fin-Nadur, Għawdex. Aktar tard irċieva l-edukazzjoni Primarja tiegħu fl-iskola
'Dun Salv Vella' fin-Nadur ukoll u, wara, fl-iskola Sekondarja 'Ninu Cremona' tar-Rabat, Għawdex.
Qabel ma daħal fis-Seminarju Maġġuri, Fr. Joseph kien soċju tas-Soċjeta Museum. Hu ta konribut fit-tagħlim tad-duttrina fir-raħal tan-Nadur u dawk ta' l-Għasri u Għajnsielem.
F'Settembru 1994 daħal is-Seminarju Maġġuri tal-Qalb ta' Ġesu, Victoria, Għawdex biex jibda l-formazzjoni tiegħu għas-saċerdozju. Matul is-sena 1998 għamel is-sena intermedjarja (parti mill-Kors tas-Seminaristi) b'ħidma pastorali fil-Parroċċa ta' Santa Luċija fil-belt ta' Ruma u ġewwa l-Bażilika ta' San Pietru (il-Vatikan).
Sena wara li rritorna lejn Għawdex hu rċieva l-ministeru tal- Lettorat u fis-sena ta' wara rċieva l-ministeru tal- Akkolitat.
Kien fit-23 ta' Ġunju 2000 meta Mons.Nikol Cauchi, Isqof ta' Għawdex ordna Djaknu lil Fr. Joseph fil-Katidral ta' Għawdex u mbagħad fl-20 ta' Ġunju 2001 Fr. Joseph ġie ordnat Saerdot mill-istess Isqof fl-istess Katidral. Ma tmiem l-istudji tiegħu fis-Seminarju tal- Qalb ta' Ġesu, Fr. Joseph ħa l-Baċellerat fit-Teoloġija.
Tul is-sentejn ta' wara l-ordinazzjoni tiegħu Fr. Joseph serva ta Vigarju Parrokkjali fil-Parroċa ta' St. Mary fil-Belt ta' Sterling, l-Iskozja. Hemm ukoll kien jokkupa l-kariga ta' Chaplain fl-Isptar Royal Infermery u anke fid-Djar ta' l-Anzjani ta' l-istess belt Skoċċiża.
Fl-1 ta' Marzu 2003,l-Isqof Nikol Cauchi innomina lil Fr. Josewph Cardona bħala Vigarju Parrokkjali għall-Parroċċa ta' Għajnsielem. Fil-preżent qiegħed ukoll jokkupa il-karigi ta' Direttur Spiritwali fil-Każin tal-banda San Gużepp, Għajnsielem kif ukoll fil-każin tal- Football ta' l-istess raħal. Ma dawn ix-xogħolijiet huwa jaħdem bħala 'reliever Chaplain' fl-isptar Ġenerali ta' Għawdex.
F'April ta' din is-sena (2005) Mons. Isqof Cauchi innomina lil Fr. Joseph Cardona bħala Direttur Spiritwali tas-Sezzjoni Għawdxija tat-Transplant Support Group.

Dr
Mario V Masini MD
Chairperson - Gozo
Section

| Dr. Masini is the Chairperson
of the Group's Gozo Section.
Born in Xaghra, Gozo on 14th. September
1963, he graduated M.D. in 1987 following
a five year course in the University of Malta.
Between 1987 and 1989 he worked as Houseman
at St. Luke's Hospital before moving to Gozo
as Medical Officer at the Gozo Health Centre.
Since 1989 Dr. Masini has been posted as
Medical Officer at the Gozo General Hospital
working on a three-monthly rotating periods
in Medicine, surgery, obstetrics and genealogy,
orthopedics, emergency medicine, blood
donation and geriatrics. He also performs
duties on a one-in-four roster basis during
which he is the doctor working in the Emergency
and Admitting Dept. He also provides medical
services as part-time family doctor.
Dr. Masini is also a co-founder of the
Gozo Medical Association of which he is
the Secretary.
He is married to Victoria (nee Camilleri)
and the father of three children.
